What does it really mean to be like Jesus?

It is safe to say most Christians do not live like Jesus did, have the same influence on people he had, or draw even the slightest curiosity from the onlooking world. Jesus's ability to attract people and win their hearts was directly related to how he challenged their assumptions about religion. He not only gave them a unique, personal way to follow him but also showed them how to participate in his mission.

Sacrilege exposes the patterns of thinking that have held the church hostage for years and inspires you to rethink the way you understand Scripture, family, spiritual formation, conversion, church, sin, and more. Your faith may never be the same. And that's a good thing.

Endorsements:
"This book is Hugh Halter the man: irreligious, forthright, honest, fun, insightful, creative, adventurous, and compassionate. And so it is an insightful, practical, missional guide to the sacrilegious life of those who want to follow Jesus in the way he wants to be followed--sacrilegiously."--from the foreword by Alan Hirsch, author or coauthor of various books including Untamed, Right Here Right Now, and The Faith of Leap

"Yet again, Hugh tips the sacred cows that need tipping and ruffles the feathers that need ruffling. This isn't done through hyperbole or distortion but a genuine examination of Jesus' life. Some will decide this is a controversial book, but in fact, Jesus was a controversial Savior. This is an honest retelling of Jesus' unruly story with a simple call to be like him in a world where most prefer their cows untipped and their feathers unruffled."--Jen Hatmaker, speaker and author of 9 books including Interrupted and Seven

Following Jesus is not "safe"
You may have come across an earlier book by Hugh Halter – The Tangible Kingdom which is excellent. I would consider this a “must-read” on the missional topic. His newest is Sacrilege: Finding life in the unorthodox ways of Jesus. The title catches your mind and follows the trend of many newer titles to be non-religious. Hugh’s book is directed more to the individual follower of Jesus versus Frost’s larger focus of the church. It’s more of a missional- life handbook for Jesus-followers. It complements Tangible Kingdom well, putting the focus clearly on our personal lives and choices. Memorable stories and illustrations begin most chapters and end with provoking questions to move us from “comfort” Christianity to the life Jesus calls us. Definitely a practical book that helps Jesus followers participate with God in His mission.
