Christianity is not a spectator sport!
The dedication and perseverance needed to live a vibrant Christian life is similar to that of an
athlete preparing for competition. To be a follower of Christ means to be in the game - to live an
active and purposeful spiritual life. And like an athlete, we need coaching in order to train
successfully.
Author and sports enthusiast Kathy Johnston shares excerpts from the lives of various
athletes, and points out that the same disciplines and strategies used in their training are necessary
elements for spiritual development. She not only shows you how to incorporate these qualities
into your life, but also assures you that your Heavenly Coach will empower you to finish your
race well.
Kathy Johnston enjoys athletics and hopes to still be on the tennis court when she's 80! She
and her husband, Charlie, currently are on staff with the Navigators in Omaha, Neb. Kathy
devotes most of her time to leading small-group Bible studies and mentoring women. A speaker at
week-end retreats and special events for women, she has co-authored Facing Choices and has
written articles for Discipleship Journal and other periodicals.
